Years ago, a house fire left me without a home. During my first months in Gainesville, I lived out of my car. That period of my life taught me something no report or statistic ever could: housing is not merely shelter. It is the foundation upon which everything else in a person's life is built. It is their health, their safety, their dignity, their future.
